Editing Services

Proficient in Chicago Manual of Style, American Psychological Association Style, Government Printing Office Style, and Modern Language Association style.

We offer two types of editing services for most disciplines.

• Substantive editing. This level of service involves things like making the writing more concise, the structure more logical, and the arguments more convincing. If you're looking to make substantial cuts in your text, that's substantive editing. If English isn't  your first language, you may require substantive editing. Going over reviewer's comments and editing engineering and some other technical disciplines that I can't subcontract are also charged at the substantive editing rate. I always offer a trial (editing a few pages or so) for substantive editing, and you only have to pay for the time if you go ahead. I typically try to do that sample within days of contact. I provide all of EpsteinWords' substantive editing personally. $90/hour. A 10% graduate student discount applies.
  
• Copy editing or proofreading. This level of service means that you're just looking to make your writing correct and conform to style. EpsteinWords has a small number of trusted subcontractors who provide most of this work. 2.6 cents a word for one read of straight text and 3.7 cents a word for two; one finds 80-90% of errors in the first read. (Thus, a 10,000 word paper is $260 or $370 depending on what you choose.) An extra fee may apply to some nonnative speakers. $68/hour for copy editing that doesn't work well with word counts (or if you need an hourly rate for some reason), such as PDFs and Overleaf. 
  
• References/bibliographies. Do you need your list checked? Do you need it constructed? Do you need it converted from one style to another? $68/hour.
